At KFUM, you can take a top rope climbing course to earn the Green Card. You need a Green Card to belay top rope climbs indoors in Sweden. The Green Card is proof that you know how to climb and belay safely on top rope.

The course is conducted in two steps:

1. You will learn the basics of climbing and belaying with rope, as well as everything required to climb safely and responsibly.

2. You will complete a Top Rope Assessment where you demonstrate that you can climb independently and belay others. Once you pass the test, the course is complete, and you will receive your Green Card.

This is the perfect course for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of rope climbing and belaying. If you already have experience with top rope climbing and belaying, you can instead book just a belay test to obtain your Green Card.

Top Rope Course – Details

• Price: 975 SEK per person
• Duration: 2 sessions
  – Session 1: approx. 4 hours
  – Session 2: approx. 1 hour (belay test)
• Payment: Payment is made upon registration and confirms your place in the course.
• Equipment: Wear comfortable clothes suitable for climbing. All other equipment is included.
• Belay test: Included when completing the course, otherwise 150 SEK.

In step 1, you will learn the fundamentals of climbing and belaying with a rope. This will give you the knowledge required to complete step 2 – the belay test (Green Card). The Green Card is required to climb independently and belay with a rope, both at our facility and at other indoor climbing gyms in Sweden.

In step 1, you will learn:

•  Safety awareness and partner checks
• Rope handling and belaying techniques
• Theoretical and practical exercises
• How to climb and practice belaying others
• How to fall and how to catch a fall – in a controlled environment
• The essential knowledge needed to pass the belay test/Green Card, according to the Swedish Climbing Federation’s national standards

In step 2, the final step of the course, you will complete a belay test to earn a Green Card. The Green Card allows you to belay others on top rope climbs. It certifies that you can belay other climbers and handle climbing equipment according to the guidelines of the Swedish Climbing Federation.

Experienced climber but don’t have a Green Card?
If you already have the knowledge and experience to belay top rope, belay others, and handle climbing equipment, you can take the belay test directly without attending the full course. During the test, you will demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to climb and belay top rope according to the Swedish Climbing Federation’s standards. To obtain a Green Card, simply book a belay test.

Important! The Green Card must be attached to your harness and visible when belaying in climbing gyms.

Top Rope Assessment:

• Type of test: Theoretical and practical test, without instruction
• Duration: 45 minutes
• Approved test gives: A valid certification card – allowing you to climb in most indoor climbing gyms in Sweden
